We are interested in providing a description of the rules governing the assembly of natural bacterial communities. This will allow us to determine the best combination of species suited to fulfil a particular goal, mainly in the biotechnological scenario.

We are particularly interested in finding possible interactions that can exclude one or more members from the community. This could have a wide range of applications in the clinical setting.

We address this goal by means of computational models of bacterial metabolism, which inform us about the possible dynamics of the community. These theoretical results are then validated experimentally.
